Are You On the Correct Path?

What is your gift that you can offer the world?
What is your buried talent?

Most people don’t struggle because they lack ability…
They struggle because they’re trying to succeed in something that doesn’t truly fit them.

I was reminded of this recently through a conversation with a friend.

His father was a doctor—and from the time he was a small boy, it was made clear that he would follow in his footsteps. That was the plan. That was the expectation.

The only problem?

It was never his dream.

He loved literature. He wanted to write. He had a vision of one day owning a magazine. But instead of pursuing that, he followed the path that had already been laid out for him.

He became a doctor.

He practised for a few years… and was completely miserable.

He joked with me, “I quit being a doctor so patients could be safer!”
Funny—but underneath that humour was a deeper truth.

He eventually realised something that many people discover far too late:

👉 He wasn’t living his calling. He was living his father’s.

And that’s where a powerful proverb takes on a different perspective:

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

What if “the way they should go” doesn’t mean pushing them into our expectations…
But helping them discover their design?

Because when someone is guided into the right path—the one aligned with who they truly are—they don’t need to be forced to stay on it.

They naturally will.

I can relate to this more than most.

At 19 years old, I didn’t have a clear sense of calling. I was, if I’m honest, just bumbling around in the financial industry—trying to figure things out like many young people do.

But over time, something began to take shape.

Part of that journey was deeply personal.

I watched my own father struggle—not just financially, but emotionally. A lack of proper financial planning led to chaos, stress, and ultimately depression. Tragically, he took his own life.

That experience left a mark on me.

And it also left me with a question that wouldn’t go away:

👉 What if there had been a company… someone… who could have educated my parents about money?

What if they had been shown how to plan, how to think long-term, how to take control?

That question became a mission.

Over time, what started as a job became a calling—to help families achieve financial freedom, to educate, to guide, to prevent others from experiencing the same pain.

That’s why I’ve stayed in the same industry my entire career.

Yes, the financial rewards have been significant—but the real fulfilment has come from something much deeper:

👉 Knowing I’m using my gifts to serve others in a meaningful way.

I didn’t always love what I do.

But I grew into it.
I found purpose in it.
And eventually—I fell in love with it.

It makes me think…

We spend years in school learning algebra or dissecting a frog—yet so little time is spent teaching practical life skills like managing money, building relationships, or discovering your calling.

And yet, those are the very things that shape the direction—and quality—of our lives.

So let me ask you again:

👉 Are you on your path… or someone else’s?

You won’t find your gift by copying others.
Discovery comes from exploring. Trying things. Paying attention.

What energises you?
What do you lose track of time doing?
What comes naturally to you?

Your gift often sits at the intersection of:
• What you love
• What you’re good at
• What others need

That’s where fulfilment lives.

👉 Start right, and you won’t have to keep starting over.

Your gift is uniquely yours.
Your calling is your contribution to the world.

So take the time to discover it.
Develop it.
And have the courage to live it.

Because when you do—you won’t just build a career…
You’ll build a life that actually fits.
